Silchar: A meeting of the Barkhola Assembly Election Management Committee was held with the participation of senior BJP leaders and party workers. BJP district president Rupam Saha, Zila Parishad president Kankan Narayan Sikidar, district election management committee president Chandan Dey, Barkhola Assembly committee president Sudip Kumar Deb, convener Ramen Ree, election in-charge Soumitra Kumar Deb, mandal presidents and other office bearers were present at the meeting.

The meeting focused on election preparedness and coordination among workers at different levels ahead of the upcoming polls.

Later in the day, the ‘Eti Koli Duti Paat’ cheque distribution programme was held in Barkhola Assembly constituency to honour the contribution of the tea community to Assam’s 200-year-old tea industry. The scheme is a key initiative of Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma.

Under the programme, cheques of Rs 5,000 each were distributed as gifts to 703 workers and employees of Rampur Tea Estate. Similar cheque distribution programmes were also organised at Subong Tea Estate and Dewan Tea Estate, where 467 tea garden workers and employees were honoured under the historic scheme.

Barak Valley Development Department Minister Kaushik Rai attended the programmes and said the initiative would motivate tea garden workers and employees and acknowledge their long-standing contribution to the state’s economy.

The programme was held at Subong Tea Estate in Lakhipur and other tea gardens under the Barkhola Assembly constituency.
