Silchar: The Bhupen Hazarika Birth Centenary Celebration Committee in Silchar felicitated seven eminent personalities from the field of art and literature with the Bhupen Hazarika Smarak Samman.

The awardees included noted cultural figures Nipu Sharma, Gautam Sinha, Tapash Shankar Deb, Pankaj Nath and Nandini Chakraborty, along with writer and litterateur Dipankar Ghosh.

Speaking on the occasion, Silchar MLA Dipayan Chakraborty, who is also the president of the Silchar chapter of the committee expressed joy in being able to recognise these stalwarts for their contribution to the cultural sphere.

Among the organisers, three prominent cultural personalities Santosh Chanda, Joydeep Chakraborty and Bhaskar Das were specially appreciated for their initiative in making the event possible.

The programme formed part of the centenary celebrations of Bharat Ratna Dr Bhupen Hazarika, whose music and vision continue to inspire generations.
