SILCHAR | The BJP on September 25 released its Municipal Area Development Sankalp Patra ahead of the Silchar Municipal Corporation election, outlining the party’s development priorities for the newly constituted 42-ward civic body.

Assam Finance and Forest Minister Jayanta Malla Baruah attended the programme in Silchar and addressed party workers and supporters during the release of the document.

The Sankalp Patra places urban development and civic infrastructure at the centre of the BJP’s campaign, with the party outlining its vision of transforming Silchar into a modern, well-planned and progressive city.

The document focuses on strengthening civic infrastructure and improving essential amenities for residents. The BJP has been highlighting urban development and civic services as key issues ahead of the corporation’s first election.

The programme was attended by BJP state president Dilip Saikia, MLA Kaushik Rai and other party leaders.

The Silchar Municipal Corporation election is scheduled for October 3, with polling to be held across the remaining wards of the newly constituted civic body.

The corporation has 42 wards, of which two have already been filled through uncontested elections.

The BJP has stepped up its campaign in the run-up to the civic polls, with its development document seeking to place infrastructure, urban planning and delivery of essential services at the forefront of its campaign.
