Guwahati: Members of the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha and the Axom Yuva Parishad held a protest outside Rajiv Bhawan in Guwahati on Friday. The protest was against the recent demonstration by the Indian Youth Congress during the AI Summit in New Delhi.
Protesters raised slogans and burnt effigies. They said the move was part of a wider agitation across the country. The groups accused the Congress youth wing of trying to disrupt an important national event.
The protest comes after an incident at the AI Summit in Delhi where IYC members allegedly staged a demonstration inside the venue. Reports said slogans were raised against Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Following the incident, four IYC leaders were arrested and later produced before a court under tight security. Police claimed that anti national slogans were raised during the protest and that three personnel were injured in the situation.
The matter has now sparked political tension, with youth groups taking to the streets in response.
