KRC TIMES Assam Bureau

As per warning received from the Indian Meteorological Department, Regional Meteorological Center, Guwahati that there will be heavy rainfall in Dima Hasao district from morning of 5th May till 15th May and in view of the ongoing repair works on the Jatinga-Harangajao stretch of NH 27 road, the District Disaster Management Authority, Dima Hasao have issued a notification restricting movement of all heavy commercial vehicle in the stretch road from Saturday 8 pm to avoid any probable damage to the road,

Its also appeals all heavy commercial vehicles destined for Barak Valley and beyond to reroute through Meghalaya until further notice.

Dima Hasao district commissioner cum DDMA chairman Simanta Kumar Das appeals all the citizens of the district not to venture out unnecessarily during rain especially after dark other than emergency or medical purpose.

He also said that DDMA was alerted by State disaster management for inclement weather in the district for the next five days and some restrictions have been imposed on movement of commercial vehicles.

He also informed that, the district administration have identified schools which could be use as a relief camp, if any situation arises and the district administration is ensuring sufficient supplies and also alerted the food and civil supply department to be vigilant.

Earlier the DDMA had ordered for closure of all schools till 4th May in Haflong following heavy rainfall, DC Das said that if such situation arise they might close the schools again.

Earlier Haflong- Silchar road communications was disrupted following a road washed away in between Harangajao and Miyungkhro due to heavy downpour on Wednesday night, following this huge numbers of vehicle remain stranded in both side. Though light motors vehicles was passed by paving an alternative path, hundreds of commercial vehicles stuck at the same place until the road temporary open on Friday.

To be mention, that road in Dima Hasao plays a crucial role in road communication since essential supplies for South Assam i.e Barak valley district, Mizoram, Tripura and other pass through the route.

Meanwhile the train running through hill district was also heavily affected, following a 100 metres earth sinking below railway track near Jatinga Lampur railway station which led train running through the district to cancel or short terminated.

Divisional railway manager, Prem Ranjan Kumar in a press meet on Saturday at New Haflong Railway station detailed restoration of train operation in the district on settlement of some portion. He said all possible steps are being taken to restore the communications considering the plight and safety of people. He added that as many 17 trains are being operated only during the day light and four trains are yet to run.

It may be mentioned here that an unpleasant incident happened with the media persons and railway officials on April 30 who went there for coverage, perhaps this has promoted the DRM to hold a press meet.
