Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh in a press conference convened at his official bungalow late evening here today had categorically said that the border fencing of the Indo-Myanmar particularly the area within the state of Manipur is the top priority of both State as well as Central Government.

Highlighting that the Chief Minister has himself witnessed a pilot fencing work for one km stretch and said that the use of high technology will ensure proper manning of the borders. As of now, vulnerable areas will be fenced, he informed.

On the issue of the resettlement of displaced people Chief Minister Biren stated that resettlement is our priority and for those farmers who are not able to plow their fields, the Government is going to compensate. Thirty-six crores have already been sanctioned and around three thousand three hundred registered farmers have benefited through the District Commissioners concerned.

Biren avoided the objections raised by Mizoram on border fencing and various messages coming out of Mizoram which is disturbing by saying that he cannot comment on another state as their perception can be different but he is clear about what Manipur wants and that the border fencing will be taken up as per Government of India plan to fence from Arunachal Pradesh to Mizoram borders.

On the war on drugs the Chief Minister of Manipur once again in a determined voice informed that the State Government is going ahead and now has started using sophisticated technology like drone surveys as well as taking the help of satellite images to destroy poppy cultivation in the state.

Biren once again appealed to people that it is the responsibility of the Government to protect lives, provide security and the Government of India is also equally aware of the demographic changes taking place in the region to which a high level committee is being formed. The scrapping of the Free Movement Regime (FMR) and population survey is going to be implemented.

Manipur Government has also started the Biometric exercise in many villages and identification of illegal migrants is being carried out informed the Chief Minister. The government of India has also extended the exercise till March 2024.

It is to be noted that the Chief Minister of Manipur had recently visited New Delhi and met Amit Shah, Union Home Minister and other senior leaders and in today’s press meeting he tried to convey that many decisions are being taken which is a step towards normalcy of the state and overnight nothing can be achieved but shall be taken up one by one.
