Guwahati: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has attached properties worth approximately Rs 53 crore belonging to former Assam Police Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Prashanta Kumar Dutta in connection with a disproportionate assets case.

According to the CBI, the attached assets were allegedly acquired between 1992 and 2019 during Dutta’s tenure in government service. The agency suspects that the properties are disproportionate to his known sources of income.

The attached properties include several hotel establishments in Guwahati, namely Hotel Bhargav and Bhargav Inn at Paltan Bazar, Hotel Bhargav at Lakhra, and Bhargav Grand at Betkuchi in Garchuk. In addition, the CBI has attached two high-value buildings located in Mumbai.

The agency said the attachment is part of its ongoing investigation into allegations that Dutta amassed assets beyond his legitimate income while serving in the Assam Police.

The CBI is continuing its investigation into the case, and further legal proceedings are expected in accordance with the law.
