Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has strongly rejected allegations made by the Congress regarding his wife Riniki Bhuyan Sarma, calling them “fabricated and politically motivated.”
The controversy began after senior Congress leader Pawan Khera alleged that Riniki Bhuyan Sarma holds passports from three different countries. Responding to the claims, the Chief Minister stated that the documents being circulated are fake and were created using artificial intelligence with the intent to mislead the public.
In a post on X, Sarma said that both he and his wife would initiate legal proceedings within 48 hours. He confirmed that defamation and criminal cases would be filed against Pawan Khera for what he described as a deliberate attempt to spread misinformation.
The Chief Minister also added that a separate First Information Report (FIR) would be lodged at the police station regarding the alleged forgery and circulation of fake documents.
Criticising the Congress, Sarma said the party is acting out of desperation and pressure, and is trying to mislead the people of Assam. He expressed confidence that the public would not be influenced by what he termed as “false propaganda and fraudulent activities.”
The issue has triggered a sharp political exchange, with tensions rising ahead of the upcoming elections in the state.
