Haflong | Vehicular movement along the Haflong-Silchar stretch of National Highway 27 was severely disrupted on Friday after a coal-laden truck became stranded at Dolaichung under Harangajao Police Station in Assam’s Dima Hasao district.

The truck reportedly developed problems while traversing the highway, leading to a complete traffic bottleneck and bringing movement along the crucial route to a standstill.

Hundreds of vehicles, including passenger buses, private cars and goods carriers, were left stranded on both sides of the highway as long queues stretched for several kilometres. Commuters faced prolonged delays, with many remaining stuck on the road for hours.

The Haflong-Silchar corridor serves as a vital transport link connecting the hill district of Dima Hasao with the Barak Valley region, and any disruption on the route often has a cascading impact on passenger and freight movement. Officials said efforts were being initiated to remove the stranded vehicle and restore normal traffic flow. However, no immediate timeline was available for clearing the congestion.

Authorities have advised motorists to avoid the route, if possible, or be prepared for significant delays until the highway is fully reopened. The incident once again highlights the vulnerability of key transportation corridors in the hill district, where the breakdown of a single heavy vehicle can lead to major disruptions in traffic movement.
