Silchar: The Silchar Town Congress Committee organised a party workers’ meeting at Indira Bhavan here on Sunday to discuss preparations and strategies for the upcoming Silchar Municipal Corporation election.

Congress representatives from all 42 wards under the Silchar Municipal Corporation attended the meeting with enthusiasm. The meeting was presided over by Silchar Town Congress president Atanu Bhattacharjee.

Silchar DCC president Sajal Acharjee, APCC secretary Abhijit Paul, APCC spokesperson Sanjeev Roy, former chairman of Silchar Municipal Board Binoy Krishna Das, Anowar Ahmed, Sujan Dutta, Amit Chakraborty, Bandita Trivedi Roy, Sajal Banik, Ali Raja Osmania, Ranjan Roy, Janmejay Choudhury, Rajesh Sinha, Answar Hussain Chowdhury, Josim Uddin, Josoda Sinha and other party leaders were present.

Ward committee presidents, members, prospective candidates and ward observers also participated in the meeting, making the programme significant for the party’s preparations for the civic polls.

During the meeting, representatives of various ward committees highlighted what they described as anomalies and shortcomings of the BJP at the local level. They also spoke about difficulties faced by common people during the BJP’s rule.

Party leaders stressed the need for proper and genuine selection of candidates for the corporation election. They said loyalty towards the Congress party, along with commitment to society and public service, would be given top priority while selecting candidates.

Sajal Acharjee and Atanu Bhattacharjee said that the party would soon invite official applications from those aspiring to contest the election.

The leaders and workers expressed confidence that united efforts by Congress workers would help the party achieve a positive result. They said the Congress would work together to win the upcoming Silchar Municipal Corporation election.
