Silchar: In a remarkable milestone, the Dakshin Ambicapur Smashan Road Durga Puja Committee is gearing up to celebrate its 70th year with grandeur and devotion. This year’s celebration promises to be spectacular, featuring a majestic pandal inspired by the iconic White House and enhanced by vibrant lighting arrangements to captivate devotees and visitors alike.

The festivities began on Sunday with the traditional Khuti Puja—the ceremonial installation of the first bamboo post—accompanied by Vedic chants and religious rituals. A colourful cultural programme followed, infusing the atmosphere with festive spirit and marking the beginning of the puja season.

Speaking to the media, organisers expressed pride in the committee’s seven-decade journey. “This is a moment of honour for our community. We are making every effort to ensure that the 70th year stands out as one of our most memorable celebrations,” they said.

Adding a unique touch, this year’s idol of Goddess Durga will be crafted in the architectural style of a traditional Dak Bungalow, offering a striking contrast to the White House-themed pandal—promising a visual treat for onlookers.

The three-day festivities will include a host of cultural performances, rhythmic beats from traditional dhakis, and the daily distribution of mahaprasad. The pandal will remain open to all, inviting devotees to offer prayers and enjoy the aesthetic splendour.

The celebrations will conclude with Bisorjan—a grand immersion procession through the city, complete with traditional dhak-dhol, folk performances, and vibrant displays—culminating at Sadarghat.

To ensure smooth conduct and crowd management, volunteers will be stationed at the venue, and the committee will work in coordination with the local administration. Appealing to the public for cooperation, the organisers urged residents to join hands in making the 70th year of the puja a grand success.
