New Delhi: The ElectionCommission has announced the schedule for biennial elections to 24 RajyaSabha seats across 10 states, including one seat each in Manipur, Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh and Mizoram.
According to the schedule released by the Commission, polling will be held on June 18 and the counting of votes will take place on the same day. The official notification for the elections will be issued on June 1.
Apart from the northeastern states, elections will also be conducted for four Rajya Sabha seats each in Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat and Karnataka. Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh will go to polls for three seats each, while Jharkhand will witness elections for two seats.
The biennial Rajya Sabha elections are held to fill seats of members whose terms are set to expire. Political parties in the respective state assemblies are expected to begin consultations and candidate selection soon ahead of the nomination process.
