SILCHAR: The Cachar District Election Officer and Returning Officer on Tuesday clarified that a claim circulating on social media about failure of CCTV surveillance at the strong room of the Integrated Skill Training and Technology (ISTT) premises was incorrect.
According to the clarification, at around 2.30 am on October 6, a changeover in the power supply to the UPS caused five CCTV cameras to restart briefly. The cameras automatically resumed recording within approximately three to four minutes.
During the brief interruption, 51 other CCTV cameras continued recording and covered the entire ISTT premises, ensuring that no portion of the premises remained unmonitored, the District Election Officer said.
The strong room continues to remain sealed under the seals of the candidates and is being guarded round the clock by police. The authorities stated that there had been no breach or untoward incident and that the security and integrity of the election process remained fully intact.
Candidates or their authorised agents may also view the CCTV footage on request at ISTT, the clarification stated.
The District Election Officer appealed to the public to rely only on official information and refrain from sharing unverified content on social media.
