Probe Points to Possible Cross-Border Route via Mizoram

Silchar: A Nigerian national, allegedly without valid travel documents, was detained in Silchar on March 25 along with four others, including a local couple, a woman from Mizoram, and an auto driver.

Police sources said the foreign national may have entered India through the Myanmar border via Mizoram. However, officials added that the investigation is still ongoing and no final conclusion has been reached yet.

The detention comes at a time when similar incidents have raised concern in Mizoram. In recent weeks, a Slovak national was picked up near the border, while on March 13, seven foreign nationals were arrested by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) for alleged illegal entry and suspected links with armed groups. Authorities have not established any direct connection between these cases so far.

Security agencies are now closely watching cross-border movement in the region. With National Highway 54 passing through Silchar and linking Mizoram to the rest of the country, officials believe Cachar district could be emerging as a sensitive transit corridor.

Further investigation is underway to determine the route, intent, and any possible network behind the movement.
