GUWAHATI | A Gauhati University student was found dead in Garal area of Azara hours after she allegedly told her mother over the phone that a friend had assaulted her at a homestay in Dharapur, police said. The deceased was identified as Nimisha Thakuria, a student enrolled in a five-year integrated course at Gauhati University.

According to the available information, Nimisha left home around 11 pm to spend the night with a friend at Rudra’s Kitchen in Dharapur. She later called her mother and allegedly said that the friend had physically assaulted her. The call ended shortly afterwards, and Nimisha’s phone was subsequently found switched off, prompting her family to alert Azara police. Police launched a search and later recovered her body near a hospital in Garal.The body was sent to Gauhati Medical College and Hospital for a post-mortem examination.

The exact cause of death has not yet been established. Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding her death, including the alleged assault and the events between her last communication with her family and the recovery of her body. Further details are awaited.
