According to Papum Pare Superintendent of Police Taru Gusar, Kami had travelled to Gohpur to bring his wife back when the incident took place at around 7.15 pm.

Police said an altercation broke out at his wife’s residence, following which Kami allegedly opened fire with a country-made pistol, killing one of his brothers-in-law. He also allegedly attacked another man, suspected to be another brother of his wife, with a machete, leaving him critically injured.

The injured man was being referred to a hospital in Dibrugarh for advanced medical treatment. The incident triggered protests at Hollongi, where demonstrators demanded swift action against the accused. The road blockade heightened tensions in the border area, prompting concerns over the situation as the search for Kami continued.

Police forces from Assam and Arunachal Pradesh are coordinating efforts to trace and apprehend the accused. A case has been registered at Gohpur Police Station, and an investigation is underway to establish the circumstances surrounding the shooting.

The accused had not been arrested at the time of reporting.
