Ukhrul 22/4/19: Life challenges in remote villages are still prevalent in most hill districts of Manipur. Roads are still muddy where promises are made to construct before the deadline but most contractual works are always done in hotchpotch manner that often the quality of the work becomes more challenging with unimaginable potholes, over grown plants, for every two kilometre half of the road.

Most of the mountains of Manipur hardly have road signals, no boundary on the turns nor safeguard structure on the edges. Unlike the roads of down south from Madurai to Thekkady despite of the heights become soothing for most of the tourist.

A class VI boy who had gone home for his short holiday to his village met with a tragic death while stepping over a live wire last Saturday .The incident took place between Phalang and Goda village of Ukhrul District.

Two of his friends are also unconscious after they tried to rescue Thotthan S/O MK Rocky of Phalang Village under Phungyar Sub Division.

What could be more tragic than a budding boy, full of potential, electrocuted while walking home. The pain and despair for the bereaved family is simply unimaginable.

According to sources MK.Thotthan and his friends on the way visited his grandmother and on resuming their way home Thotthan accidentally stepped on the live wire lying on the road.

Incidentally the high voltage wire had snapped and state electricity transmission department were yet to take action on the fault in the transmission line when the fatal incident happened.

It is suspected that the recent storm could have caused the HT wire to snap.

The two boys who escaped with burn injuries were identified as Ngahanthem Jajo, S/o Ningreishang Jajo and Okpei Jajo S/o Malungchang Jajo.

Due to the remoteness of the accident spot, arrangement for evacuation of the boys took much time.

Things like electricity, telecommunications and potable water supply are some of the basic needs that any government worth its name ought to provide to its citizen. But in Manipur,  particularly in the hills,  while the basic needs are yet to become a reality,  the poor infrastructure set up for these basic amenities have  claimed innocent life time and again, testifying on the quality of developmental works and haphazard manner they are being implemented in remote Manipur.
