Silchar : The sacred occasion of Guru Purnima was celebrated with great reverence and spiritual enthusiasm at the Silchar Shankar Math-O-Mission, located on Mahaprabhu Sarani, Sonai Road. Devotees from across the town thronged the temple premises to participate in the day-long observance rooted in the principles of Sanatan Dharma.

The programme included traditional religious rituals such as special pujas, soulful bhajans, and spiritual discourses that underscored the timeless significance of the Guru-Shishya tradition. The atmosphere was infused with devotion and spiritual reflection.

Addressing the gathering, Srimat Bigyanananda Brahmachari Maharaj, Sevadhikari of the Mission, highlighted the universal importance of Guru Purnima. “This day is not confined to Hinduism alone; it holds equal importance in Buddhism. It was on this day that Lord Gautama Buddha delivered his first sermon at Sarnath after attaining enlightenment,” he explained.

He further cited Hindu scriptures, stating that Lord Shiva is revered as the Adi Guru, the first teacher, who imparted divine wisdom to the Saptarishis—Atri, Vashishtha, Pulaha, Angira, Pulastya, Marichi, and Kratu—on this very day. “It is this divine origin that makes Guru Purnima such a significant observance,” he added.

A Mahaprasad distribution ceremony was held in the afternoon, enhancing the spirit of community and devotion among attendees. Among the notable participants were Srimat Atmananda Brahmachari, Ranjit Mitra (President), Biplab Kumar Dey (Secretary), Ramu Debnath (Vice President), as well as community members including Beauty Dey, Shikha Dey, Suman Mitra, Newton Mitra, Kabul Mitra, Pranab Dutta, Ratan Dey, Rudra Pratap Choudhury, Sneha Dey, Bicky Roy, and many others.
