Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has described Sivasagar MLA Akhil Gogoi’s protest over flood compensation as politically motivated, accusing the opposition leader of trying to gain political mileage by raising the concerns of flood-affected families.
The Chief Minister said the survey reports on flood damage in three districts would be sent to the Central Government within the next couple of days.
He also expressed hope that the state would receive funds from the Centre soon, allowing the government to provide compensation to families affected by the floods.
The remarks came amid demands for the timely payment of compensation to flood-hit families. Gogoi has been protesting over the issue, while Sarma maintained that the government was taking steps to complete the assessment process and secure the necessary funds.
The next steps will depend on the submission of the damage assessment reports and the release of funds by the Central Government.
