Guwahati | Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma met South Korean Ambassador to India Lee Seong-ho in Guwahati on Thursday and discussed potential areas of cooperation between Assam and South Korea, including semiconductors, technology parks, cosmetics and cultural exchanges.

Sarma said the meeting brought back memories of his visit to Seoul in 2025, where he observed South Korea’s technological capabilities, industrial development and cultural heritage.

The discussions focused on opportunities for collaboration in emerging sectors, particularly semiconductors and technology parks. Possibilities in the cosmetics industry were also discussed, along with avenues for strengthening cultural ties between Assam and South Korea.

Entertainment and K-pop featured among the cultural areas discussed during the meeting. Sarma said such exchanges could contribute to closer people-to-people and cultural links between the two sides.

“It was a privilege to meet H.E. Mr. Lee Seong-ho, Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to India, who called on me today in Guwahati,” Sarma said in a social media post.

The meeting comes as Assam seeks to attract investment in technology and other emerging industries while expanding its international economic and cultural engagements.

The chief minister’s discussions with the South Korean envoy are part of these efforts, with potential cooperation spanning both industrial sectors and cultural exchanges.
