Imphal: Mehbooba Mufti, president of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has strongly condemned the killing of two children in Manipur, describing the incident as “horrific” and “deeply disturbing.”

The attack occurred in Bishnupur district, where suspected militants allegedly hurled a bomb at a residential house. The explosion claimed the lives of a five-year-old boy and a six-month-old girl, sparking widespread outrage and protests across the state.

In a statement posted on X, Mufti denounced the use of what she termed a “military-grade weapon” against civilians, especially children. She expressed deep anguish over the loss of innocent lives and extended her condolences to the bereaved family.

Raising concerns over the response of authorities, Mufti also pointed to what she described as a troubling silence from those in power. She called for immediate accountability and urged stronger measures to ensure the safety of civilians in conflict-affected areas.

The incident has further intensified tensions in Manipur, where sporadic violence has continued to disrupt normal life, drawing sharp reactions from political leaders and civil society alike.
