Ibobi further criticised the Centre, alleging that adequate efforts were not made to bring the situation under control

IMPHAL: Manipur Congress president and former Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh on September 17 accused the state government of failing to discharge its constitutional responsibility of maintaining law and order.
Speaking at a programme organised to welcome new members into the Congress, Ibobi said law and order is a state subject and alleged that the government had failed to restore normalcy since ethnic violence broke out in May 2023.
He also said that when the state government could not contain the situation during the initial months, other measures should have been taken to restore peace. Ibobi further criticised the Centre, alleging that adequate efforts were not made to bring the situation under control.
His remarks came amid renewed security concerns in the state, with the government separately reviewing the law and order situation and measures to strengthen security.
