The International Cricket Council (ICC) inaugural ceremony was held on May 29.

Total 48 matches will be played in round robin format. Opening match will be played at 30th may 2019 between the host countries England Vs South Africa.

The official launch which was also being called the ‘Opening Party’ that took place at the iconic London Mall against a majestic backdrop of the Buckingham Palace. The venue had close to 4000 cricket fans.

It was the first time that the opening ceremony of the Cricket World Cup was not held inside a stadium. The cricket’s governing body said that the opening ceremony was the most celebrated start to a Cricket World Cup ever.

This is the 12th edition of the Cricket World Cup. It will be held from 30 May to 14 July 2019 in eleven different venues.

The format for the tournament will be a single group of 10 teams, with each team playing the other nine once, and the top four at the end of the group phase progressing to the semi-finals.

The 10-team tournament has gained criticism due to the lack of Associate teams in the tournament. Given the increase of the Test-playing nations from 10 to 12, with the admission of Ireland and Afghanistan in June 2017, it will be the first World Cup to be contested without all of the Test playing nations being present.

The First semi-final is to be held at Old Trafford, Second semi-final at Edgbaston and Final at the Lord’s.
