Incessant rain and landslides wreaked havoc in Dima Hasao while taking three lives. Heavy rain for a few days has affected normal life here at Haflong in Dima Hasao. Many parts of Haflong are flooded with rainwater. Roads are also affected due to the overflowing rainwater. At several places on Lanka–Haflong road, deep shrinkage developed causing uncertainty to travelers.

In a shocking incident, three persons including one minor girl died due to landslides this morning in Hokai Pungchi 7 km from Haflong.

They were identified as 1. Pauramsuilungbe Zeme 49 yrs, LP Teacher, 2. Kiseteung Zeme 34 years, and 3. Kanchile Zeme (class-iv) daughter of Sri Pauheuchangbe Zeme. Villagers engaged in the Recovery operation at Hokai Pungchi managed to recover one body till the filing of this report.

At Harangajao near Dimbruchera, the NH road is totally cut off due to landslides. Many houses in and around Haflong were also affected due to incessant rain for a few days. Reports of damages caused by the overflowing of rivers like Jatinga, Mahur, and Diyung and their tributaries from places like Maibang, Mahur, and Harangajao are pouring in. People are spending sleepless nights these days fearing landslides and erosions.

Rail communication between Lumding -Badarpur was also disrupted. Local railway officials informed that at many locations landslides affected railway tracks. At this moment nothing could be said about how long it would take for the restoration of railway communication. Many trees are uprooted due to storms and incessant rain.

Meanwhile, Dima Hasao Deputy Commissioner passed an order in the public interest stating in view of the incessant rainfall in Dima Hasao that has caused landslides and overflowing of streams and rivulets rendering certain sections of NH-27 (earlier known as NH- 54E) like the Kapurcherra and Doliadisa sections unpliable, movement of any kind of vehicles were hereby prohibited along the above-mentioned sections until further orders. The NHAI was directed to take up temporary restoration works immediately to make the road pliable and put “ROAD CLOSED AHEAD” signage along those sections until restoration works are complete.

Trees uprooted due to heavy rain on Saturday

Dima Hasao Autonomous Council Chief Executive Member Sri Debolal Gorlosa stated that the continuous downpour of Rainfall has been causing tremendous inconvenience in both urban and rural parts of DimaHasao. The Council, EMs, MACs, District Administration, DDMA, and Officers have been working round the clock to clear the roads, debris, falling trees, etc. CEM Gorlosa also requested all the citizens of DimaHasao not to panic and be alert during this time We are there for all help needed.

Dima Hasao Dist Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) issued ALERT Due to adverse weather conditions in Dima Hasao, all people are requested to remain indoors and avoid loitering outside unless very urgent. Avoid journey or travelling as landslides, rockfalls, and falling of trees have been reported unwarned. Fallen power lines due to heavy rain and landslides are being reported that may be disastrous.
