Shillong: Police have busted an interstate racket allegedly involved in a series of ATM thefts across multiple states, arresting six persons in connection with a break-in at an electronic banking outlet in Meghalaya’s Ri-Bhoi district.
The case relates to the burglary of an ATM belonging to Meghalaya Cooperative Apex Bank on April 5, 2024. According to police, the accused used gas cutters to break open the ATM safe and fled with cash within minutes.
Officials said three of the accused were arrested from Barpeta in Assam, while the remaining three were apprehended from Haryana following coordinated operations.
Investigators believe the gang was part of a larger network targeting ATMs in different states using similar methods. Further investigation is underway to establish their links to other cases and recover the stolen money.
