Guwahati | Union Health Minister J.P. Nadda on Wednesday assured Assam of full support from the Centre for relief and rehabilitation in flood-affected areas, stating that there would be “no shortage” of assistance for the state as it recovers from the recent devastating floods.

Accompanied by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, Nadda visited the flood-ravaged Bihubor and Nepali Khuti areas in Sivasagar district, where he interacted with affected families and reviewed the ground situation.

Addressing residents, the Union minister said the Central government, under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, remained committed to supporting Assam’s relief and rehabilitation efforts.

“On behalf of the Government of India and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, I assure Himanta Biswa Sarma and all of you that there will be no shortage of relief assistance. Complete financial assistance is being extended to the state,” Nadda said.

He added that Central teams were already conducting assessments to determine the extent of damage caused by the floods. “Central teams are assessing the scale of damage here. We are fully engaged in rehabilitation efforts,” he said.

Bihubor and Nepali Khuti are among the worst-affected localities in Sivasagar district, where floodwaters damaged houses, agricultural fields, livestock and public infrastructure. The disaster forced many families to evacuate their homes and seek refuge in relief camps and temporary shelters on higher ground.

During the visit, Nadda and Sarma met flood-affected residents and reviewed the challenges faced by families who lost homes, household belongings and means of livelihood.

The visit comes as the Assam government continues relief distribution, damage assessment and rehabilitation measures across Sivasagar and other flood-affected districts. The state has announced financial assistance for affected households, including aid for damaged homes, crop losses, livestock deaths and livelihood restoration.

The Centre’s assurance is expected to bolster ongoing rehabilitation efforts as authorities work to help flood-hit communities rebuild after one of the most destructive flood spells to affect parts of Upper Assam in recent years.
