Karbi Anglong | Heroin worth ten crores seized

After nearly two months Karbi Anglong police struck massively against the interstate drugs smugglers at the same infamous Lahorijan located in the borderline of Assam and Nagaland during wee hours.

According to a police source, a team of Bokajan police led by Officer In-charge of Dilai police station Sub Inspector Lutfur Rahman, Officer In-charge Laharijan Patrolling Post Sub Inspector Deba Pratim Kownar and his staff, and a contingent of Central Reserve Police Force intercepted a truck coming from Imphal near Laharijan Patrolling Post. After rummaging through the vehicle recovered one hundred ten soap cases containing 1500 grams of heroin hidden under plastic sheets.

Unofficially police have evaluated the market price of the banned drugs to be around ten crores however the cost generally varies depending on the quality and availability of the substance.   

The whole operation was conducted based on a secret tip-off from a very reliable source, and accordingly, the special checking was organized at 6.00 am, the truck bearing registration number NL 01AA 5840 was approaching from Imphal city of Manipur.

 In this connection, the driver of the vehicle Deepok Cherty aged around twenty six was arrested on the spot. Deepok Cherty is the son of Devi Prasad Cherty, resident of Thaldara Irang part 2, Kangpoi district of Manipur state. Till the filing of this report police are conducting exploration to unearth the other connections of the drug handlers.
