Karbi Anglong | Naga bodies meet KAAC CEM after Balijan eviction

Nagas and Karbis have been living together since time immemorial, no untoward incident should occur in future

After a massive eviction drive carried out by the authority of Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council in Balijan locality of Bokajan subdivision of Karbi Anglong district on last Sunday disagreeing with the local settlers, that they are covered by the Guwahati High Court’s order against eviction, the situation turned unpleasant in the whole border locality where beside doubtful settlers some Naga community people also resides.

Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council’s Land & Revenue Department has officially announced that the whole area is government revenue land and no private holdings is permissible, the occupiers have captured government land illegally and whatever documents they are producing have no legal pedestal.

The council authority however adhered to the court’s observation given in response to the appeal of more than thirty four individuals spared a number of constructions specified by the High Court’s order during the eviction.

The whole eviction operation landed in a rough situation, hundreds of settlers put up massive resistance and soon the protest turned aggressive, police personnel, journalists and members of resistance groups received injuries from stone pelting, police baton, and tear gas shells.            

In order to overcome the situation in a social way a collection of representatives from Naga Students’ Federation, and Dimapur Students’ Union held a meeting with Chief Executive Member of Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council Tuliram Ronghang yesterday at his official residence at Diphu to discuss the issue where representatives of Karbi student organizations were also present.

The organization leaders appealed for urgent relocation of the affected Naga families, and to seek out an amicable solution, the meeting took place in a congenial atmosphere but the council authority have not embarked on any decision.  

Tuliram Ronghang in his social media page has mentioned that “representative from Naga Students’ Federation and Dimapur Students’ Union came to apprise me of their grievances with regard to the eviction of illegal settlers carried out yesterday in Balijan with an appeal for immediate resettlement of affected Naga families and to seek an amicable solution. After a prolonged discussion, the student bodies of both the counterparts and the authorities of Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council have resolved to maintain peace. Nagas and Karbis have been living together since time immemorial, no untoward incident should occur in future”.

Dimapur Naga Student’s Union was represented by Moayanger Jamir,  Sedelo T Vadeo,  Matsunginla Michael Kath David Keneingutuo Sorunuo  Khamjailung Kamson  Wurhotshunyuthe Tesiding, Newmai, Chuti Zhuni Cache and Star K M B Mhajan Tsopoe.  Naga Student’s Federation was represented by Kegwayhun Tep Siipuni, Ng Philo Mteisuding and Heraang Kenilo Kent

Present during the meeting from Karbi Anglong were Phenphiga Rengma, Sports Board Chairman, Presidents of KSA, Thangsing Timung, Simeon Rongphar, President, Karbi Students Union, Rustom Rongphar, Prokash Terang, President, Karbi Students and Youth Council Serlongki Bey.
