Meerut: A delivery worker was allegedly assaulted by a customer in Meerut on Friday night following a dispute over a delayed food order. The incident reportedly took place around 9:30 pm and was allegedly triggered by a delay of just five minutes.

According to delivery worker Amit Yadav, the customer called him after the order was delayed. Amit said he informed the customer that the order was five minutes late. However, the customer reportedly claimed that the delay was around 15 minutes.

Amit alleged that the customer asked him to come to his house and threatened to deal with him there. When Amit reached the house, the man allegedly assaulted him with kicks and punches and snatched his phone.

He further alleged that the accused dragged him into a room and assaulted him again. The man’s wife was reportedly present during the incident. CCTV footage of the alleged assault has since surfaced.

Amit also alleged that the customer threatened to file a rape case against him, claiming that he had misbehaved with and harassed his wife.

Following the incident, more than 20 delivery workers reached Bhawwanpur Police Station at around 8 am on Saturday and staged a sit-in protest. The workers reportedly demanded the immediate arrest of the accused and said they would not leave until action was taken.

The incident has raised concerns among delivery workers over their safety while dealing with customers. The workers have demanded strict action against the accused and better protection for delivery personnel.
