Arrests Against IAS, IPS Officers

KRC TIMES National Bureau

NEW DELHI: The Union Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has directed all segments of the AGMUT cadre to report within 48 hours any FIR, arrest, adverse court order or action by investigating agencies involving IAS, IPS, DANICS and DANIPS officers.

The directive covers action by agencies such as the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), Enforcement Directorate (ED) and Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB). The move is aimed at ensuring timely information to the Centre on criminal cases, investigations and disciplinary developments involving senior civil and police officers.

The MHA reportedly issued the direction after observing delays in the reporting of such matters by local departments. Long Leave Cases Under Review

The ministry has also ordered a closer review of officers who have remained on prolonged leave. Authorities have been asked to verify their leave records, the nature and duration of leave, extensions granted and the officer’s reported place of stay. The MHA has directed that salaries should be paid only for periods covered by sanctioned leave. Any excess payment detected is to be recovered as per applicable rules.

Officers found to be absent for prolonged periods without adequate explanation or failing to resume duty despite official directions may face disciplinary action.

Deadline for Pending Disciplinary Cases

The ministry has set October 15 as the deadline for AGMUT segments to submit details and supporting documents related to pending disciplinary cases. The reports have been asked to clearly indicate whether the proceedings are at the pre-charge-sheet or post-charge-sheet stage.

For Jammu and Kashmir, the MHA has also directed the administration to expedite the collection of Annual Performance Appraisal Reports (APARs) and preparation of documents for pending IAS and IPS induction proposals. The documents are to be kept ready for submission to the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) once vacancies are finalised.

The AGMUT cadre covers Arunachal Pradesh, Goa, Mizoram and the Union Territories, including Jammu and Kashmir.
