Mizoram set to host paragliding accuracy world cup 2020 and ‘grand festival’ side-by-side, offering entertainment as well as ethnic delights to showcase Mizoram to the world.

Robert Romawia Royte, Minister of State, Sports & Youth Services, Tourism, I&CT on 26th October briefed regarding the Paragliding Accuracy World Cup 2020 & Grand Festival to be held in Dawngzawl, Serchhip next year.

The Mizoram Minister informed that Paragliding Accuracy World Cup 2020 & Grand Festival’ which is likely to be held from 10th-16th February, 2020 in Dawngzawl, Serchhip. Serchhip had successfully hosted a Pre-World Cup Paragliding event last year where 9 countries participated, following which, the Paragliding World Cup Association had sent technical experts several times to study the location at Serchhip and confirmed it as one of the best sites for paragliding in terms of topography and wind speed.

About 130 of the best paragliders and 20 officials from different parts of the world are expected to come together for the Paragliding Accuracy World Cup, 2020.

Minister Royte said that as this event was going to attract a lot of tourists from within and outside the country, the Tourism Department, which also comes under him, will organise a ‘Grand Festival’ side-by-side, offering entertainment as well as ethnic delights to showcase Mizoram to the world.

The Paragliding World Cup is the most competitive paragliding competition available world wide. The Official Committee of the Paragliding World Cup was formed on August 9th 1991 in Verbier, Switzerland and the Paragliding World Cup began as an official event in 1992.

Since its creation the Paragliding World Cup Association have focused on 2 main goals :
• Allowing access to all pilots worldwide.
• Selecting the best pilots worldwide.

This means all pilots need to be qualified to take part in a World Cup.
