In pursuance of the decision of the High Powered Committee on Covid-19 to relax the various activities in the State including the number of occupancy in commercial vehicles, Deputy Commissioner Kohima, Gregory Thejawelie, has issued an order stating that in the interest of public service, the occupancy in commercial vehicles within Kohima district has been relaxed to 100%. The fares charged shall also be reverted back to the pre-lockdown rate.

The Order further stated that the direction will be applicable to the entire jurisdiction of Kohima district with immediate and will be enforced till further directions. Non-compliance to the direction will be strictly dealt with as per the appropriate Section of the law.

In another directive, the Department of School Education has informed that few schools have resumed regular classes for students of Pre-Primary classes whereas the Government has allowed resuming of normal classes only for students of classes 6 and above with effect from 8th February 2021 and that for students of classes 1 to 5 with effect from 22nd  March 2021.

All concerned have been cautioned that resuming normal classes for students of Pre-Primary classes without the approval of the competent authority is strictly prohibited and appropriate action will be initiated against the erring School Heads and School Managements.

A meeting in relation to Fixation of Rate for Taxi/Bus, was held at DC’s Conference Hall, Longleng on 16th March 2021.

The meeting was chaired by ADC Longleng, D. Robin. After thorough deliberation, the following points were decided by the house :

(a) The revised rate of the taxi/bus, as listed below shall come into force with immediate effect:
(i) Tata Sumo – Longleng to Dimapur – Rs.700/-

(ii) Tata Sumo – Longleng to Kohima – Rs. 750/-

(iii) Bus – Longleng to Dimapur – Rs. 500/-

(iv) Tata Sumo – Longleng to Mokokchung – Rs. 400/-

(v) Tata Sumo – Longleng to Tamlu – Rs. 350/-.

(b) Maintenance of vehicles in good running condition shall be the responsibility of the taxi/bus owners and inspections shall be carried out from time to time. The owner shall be penalized in the event that negligence in maintenance results in risking the lives of the passengers.

(c) Overloaded vehicles shall be banned. The passenger luggage should not exceed the maximum weight (10 kg), Compliance of which shall be strictly carried out.

(d) Intoxicated drivers shall be penalized.

(e) Ferrying of illegal items is banned. Violation of which shall be dealt with as per the provision of law.
