National Seminar on Indigenous Culture to be Held at Hailakandi College

Hailakandi: Srikishan Sarda College, Hailakandi, will host a two-day ICSSR (NERC)-sponsored national seminar on “Indigenous Culture of North East India in the Context of Indian Knowledge System” on November 18 and 19, 2025. The event is being organized by the college’s IKS Cell.

The seminar will explore multiple dimensions of indigenous traditions, with sub-themes ranging from women’s roles, history, and sociological aspects to religion, folk literature, traditional farming practices, and the influence of the Ramayana and Mahabharata in the region’s cultural life.

Abstracts of research papers must be submitted by September 20, 2025. Presentations will be accepted in Sanskrit, Bengali, English, Assamese, Hindi, and Manipuri. Selected papers will be published in Annwesha, the peer-reviewed journal of the Department of Bengali, and in a seminar proceeding with ISBN.

Registration is online only, with fees fixed at Rs. 1200 for faculty presenters and Rs. 800 for research scholars and students. The seminar will run in hybrid mode to allow both offline and online participation.

The organizing committee includes Prof. B. Panda, Director of ICSSR (NERC) as Chief Patron; Prof. Debotosh Chakraborty, President of the Governing Body of the college; Principal Dr. Ratan Kumar; Dr. Golab Chandra Nandi, IQAC Coordinator; and Dr. Dipanjona Purkayastha, Seminar Coordinator.
