Guwahati: The Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has intensified restoration work on flood-affected railway sections in Upper Assam by deploying more than 200 workers to repair damaged tracks and restore train services disrupted by flooding in Sivasagar district.

According to NFR, heavy rainfall in the upstream catchment areas caused the Dikhow River to overflow, leading to severe flooding at Simaluguri railway station. The floodwaters inundated the station, its yard, the railway colony, and adjoining railway tracks under the Tinsukia Division, affecting normal train operations.

Railway authorities said engineering teams are working round the clock under the supervision of senior officials to restore services at the earliest. Restoration efforts are currently focused on the Selenghat-Amguri section, where repair work is progressing on a war footing.

NFR stated that every effort is being made to ensure the safe and speedy resumption of train services, while continuously monitoring the situation and carrying out restoration work despite challenging conditions.
