Kohima: Police forces across the northeastern States are set to launch a coordinated anti-drug crackdown, with a common enforcement mechanism expected to become operational within the next 10 days, Nagaland Director General of Police Rupin Sharma said on Friday.
Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of an event marking the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, Sharma said Directors General of Police and heads of anti-narcotics task forces from all northeastern States had recently held a meeting to formulate a unified strategy against drug trafficking networks operating across the region.
He said the initiative aims to strengthen inter-state coordination, improve intelligence sharing, and enhance joint operations to dismantle organised drug trafficking networks. The coordinated mechanism is expected to boost the region’s efforts to curb the illegal drug trade, which remains a major challenge in several northeastern States.
