Guwahati: NRL has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Directorate of Inland Water Transport ( IWT), Govt of Assam for the supply of high speed diesel to IWT vessels in Assam, highlighting NRL’s commitment to boosting the local economy and supporting sustainable transport infrastructure.
The MoU was signed by NRL CGM( Marketing) Subrata Das and IWT Director Partha Pegu at a program held at the Assam State Secretariat in the presence of the CM of Assam Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma. Also, present on the occasion were MD NRL Bhaskar Jyoti Phukan; DF NRL Sanjay Choudhuri, Commissioner Transport, Govt. of Assam Adil Khan; GM NF Railway Chetan Srivastava, Advisor ( Education), Govt of Assam Shri Noni Gopal Mahanta and officials from NRL and Govt of Assam.
Under the MoU, NRL will ensure a steady supply of high-speed diesel for Inland Water Transport vessels in Assam, which till now was sourced from different retail outlets. The annual requirement of HSD of inland waterway vessels is about 12 Lakh litres. The Chief Minister highlighted the significance of this partnership, expressing his optimism that it will be a win-win for both sides.
Further, this partnership will also pave the way for implementing the use of Methanol blended High Speed Diesel, which is a cleaner fuel with low carbon emissions in IWT’s marine vessels. The 1st trial run of a marine vessel of IWT using Methanol Blended Diesel was successfully carried out by NRL during the visit of Minister MOPNG at Guwahati on 24th January 2023.
