Guwahati: Lok Sabha MP Pradyut Bordoloi resigned from the Indian National Congress on March 17, citing internal discord, lack of support, and repeated humiliation within the party.

Confirming the development, Bordoloi said he had submitted his resignation letter to the president of the All India Congress Committee, bringing an end to his long association with the party.

Expressing anguish over the decision, the veteran leader said stepping away from the Congress meant abandoning one of the most important principles of his life. “I am not happy with this decision,” he stated, describing the move as emotionally difficult.

Bordoloi alleged that he had been facing repeated disrespect from members within the party, particularly in the Assam unit. According to him, the situation had worsened in recent times.

“I was being insulted on many issues by anyone who approached me from within the Congress Party, especially in the Assam Congress. Even the leadership was not showing sympathy towards me,” he said.

The senior leader also spoke about a growing sense of isolation despite his lifelong political association with the Congress. “I have become very lonely because I have been associated with the Congress all my life. But of late, I have been having a lot of difficulty surviving,” he added.

While Bordoloi did not disclose his immediate political plans, his resignation is expected to have political implications in Assam, where the Congress has been facing internal challenges and leadership issues.

Observers believe the exit of the senior leader could further intensify questions over the organisational stability of the party in the state ahead of future elections.
