Silchar: A shocking case of alleged domestic violence has emerged from the Madhurband area of Silchar, where a seven-month pregnant woman was reportedly murdered by her husband.

The victim, identified as Rabiya Begum, was allegedly killed by her husband, Biru Mia. According to the victim’s family, Biru assaulted her by kicking her in the stomach and later strangled her with a rope. They claim he committed the crime to continue living with another woman, whom he had been in a relationship with and recently married.

Biru Mia was arrested on Monday night from Silchar Medical College Hospital. However, he has denied all allegations, claiming that his wife died by suicide. The incident has triggered strong reactions in the locality, with residents and the victim’s family demanding strict punishment, including the death penalty for the accused. Police have begun an investigation, and further legal proceedings are underway.
