Extended festive greetings and paid tribute to late singer Zubeen Garg

Silchar: Rupam Social, Cultural, and Sports Association observed Mahalaya on Sunday with the distribution of new clothes among the poor and needy, ahead of the Durga Puja festivities.
The event began with a welcome address by General Secretary Nikhil Pal, who extended festive greetings and paid tribute to late singer Zubeen Garg. “The pride of Assam and India is no longer with us. This loss is hard to accept,” he said. A minute of silence was observed in Garg’s memory.

During the program, 500 new sarees were distributed, and sweets were shared with attendees. Rupam members and well-wishers actively supported the initiative, for which the organization expressed gratitude.
Known for its social engagement throughout the year, Rupam also contributes through blood donation camps and relief efforts during floods, earthquakes, and other natural calamities.
Among those present were Executive President Rajkumar Pal, Joint Secretaries Uttam Kumar Sarma and Kajal Karmakar, Drama Secretary Seema Purkayastha, Cultural Secretary Indira Saha, Publicity Secretary Bhaskar Das, along with several other members and well-wishers.
