New Delhi: In a major political development, seven out of ten Rajya Sabha MPs of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), including Raghav Chadha and Sandeep Pathak, on Thursday announced their decision to join the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

Addressing a press conference in New Delhi, Chadha said the group has already submitted a formal letter to Rajya Sabha Chairman C. P. Radhakrishnan, along with the necessary documents, to initiate the merger process.
“As per constitutional provisions, if two-thirds of the total MPs of a party agree, they can merge with another party,” Chadha stated, adding that the requirement has been fulfilled in this case.
Apart from Chadha and Pathak, the MPs who are set to join the BJP include Harbhajan Singh, Rajendra Gupta, Vikram Sahni, Swati Maliwal, and Ashok Mittal.
Both Pathak and Mittal were present alongside Chadha during the press briefing.
The move marks a significant shift in the political landscape, potentially impacting the balance of power in the Upper House. Further reactions from party leaderships are awaited.
