Strong winds, heavy rains, and lightning lashed the southeastern part of Manipur on Sunday, causing widespread damage to houses, standing crops, and livestock shelters.

This comes just five days after a powerful hailstorm wreaked havoc in the Senapati district bordering Nagaland.

The latest storm ripped through Khongjom Sangaikhong village in Thoubal district around 10 am on Sunday. Several homes were reportedly swept away, while standing crops and livestock shelters were heavily damaged.

This devastation adds to the misery caused by the hailstorm that struck Chakha village in Senapati on March 27.

The unexpected storm, accompanied by heavy rain, destroyed crops and reduced as many as 40 houses to rubble. Five women were reportedly injured in the incident, leaving many residents displaced.

The string of extreme weather events has left many in Manipur helpless and homeless. The meteorological department has issued warnings of further heavy rains in the state.

Affected families are urging the government to provide immediate financial assistance to help them rebuild their lives.
