Shatadal Acharjee’s New Poetry Collection Shomoyer Chhaya Released in Silchar

Silchar: Poet Shatadal Acharjee’s latest collection of poems, Shomoyer Chhaya, was formally released on Friday evening at a literary gathering in the Dwijendra-Dolly Memorial Library, Premtala, Silchar. The book has been published by the Agartala-based daily Bajra Kontho.

The unveiling ceremony was conducted by noted journalist, poet, and writer Atin Das, in the presence of distinguished guests—poet Prof. Suman Gun, Prof. Subhabrata Dutta, and Prof. Durba Deb. The event began with the traditional felicitation of the guests with uttoriyo.

In his address, Atin Das remarked that writing poetry in the present era is like fighting on a battlefield, with poets serving as soldiers of language. He reflected on the literary heritage of the Barak Valley, recalling its publishing movement and the legacy of the historic Century Publication.

Speaking of Acharjee’s work, he noted that the verses echo the voice of the times, encompassing history, Bangladesh, and contemporary realities, and described Shatadal as “one of the brightest poets of present-day Barak.”

Prof. Suman Gun read from the collection, observing that Acharjee’s poetry has steadily gained readers’ admiration. Prof. Durba Deb extended her congratulations while also touching upon the past and present role of libraries in the valley. Prof. Subhabrata Dutta praised the poet’s craft, affirming that poetry still retains its power to move people deeply.

The evening also featured poetry readings by Sharmila Deb Kanungo, Rupraj Bhattacharjee, Shailen Das, Sarmi Dey, Bhaskar Jyoti Das, Debolina Roy, Swatilekha Roy, Nayan Dey, Rajdeep Chakraborty, Saurav Chakraborty, Ankita Dev, and Ananya Mahanta. Musical performances were presented by Prof. Durba Deb and Minakshi Dutta.

The programme concluded with poet Shatadal Acharjee expressing heartfelt gratitude to all those who joined the celebration of his new work.
