The first 20 trainees will be given t-shirts

Silchar : The much-awaited football academy of the Silchar District Sports Association (DSA) will finally begin its journey on August 22.
Announcing the launch at a press conference held on Saturday at the Tulsidas Banik Conference Hall of the S.M. Dev Memorial Stadium, DSA president Shibabrata Dutta said the initiative aims to provide systematic training and grooming for budding footballers of the region. Describing it as a long-cherished dream of the association and local football enthusiasts, he informed that the academy was formally inaugurated on May 25. The first 20 trainees will be given t-shirts.
Academy chairman and former renowned footballer Jahar Paul expressed his happiness at being part of the initiative. He said three coaches have been appointed and announced that the admission fee has been fixed at Rs. 500, with a monthly fee of Rs. 500, while female players will be exempt from all fees. Training will be held from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays.
Former footballer and academy convener Bahar Islam voiced confidence that the academy will not only nurture local talent but also contribute to the growth of the sport in the Barak Valley. AGS (Admin) Debashish Shome said the first meeting of the academy was held on July 29, followed by the second on August 4. Around 12 coaches will be associated with the programme.
Former national footballer Yadav Paul stressed the importance of sincerity, dedication, commitment, and discipline in shaping future players. Football secretary Bikash Das pledged to spare no effort in ensuring the success of the training sessions.
Describing the launch date as a proud moment, DSA general secretary Atanu Bhattacharjee said, “Although delayed, we are happy to announce that the academy will start on August 22 at 3 p.m.”
