Silchar: In a push to strengthen the city’s waste management system, the Silchar Municipal Corporation’s SWMS team recently held a strategic review meeting with its frontline workers, the Pourasakhis, focusing on improving door-to-door waste collection and overall efficiency.
The meeting reviewed daily performance, with special attention to coverage gaps and challenges faced in the field. Officials stressed the need for better coordination to ensure every household is reached and services remain consistent.

A key focus area was source segregation. The team discussed ways to increase public awareness so that residents separate waste at home, making processing easier and more effective. Officials believe this step is crucial for long-term sustainability.
To improve monitoring, new registers were distributed among the workers. These will help maintain accurate records of daily collection and support more systematic tracking of operations.
The review also touched on composting practices. Efforts are being made to refine techniques and promote a stronger waste-to-wealth cycle, turning organic waste into useful compost.
Officials highlighted the role of Pourasakhis as the backbone of the city’s cleanliness drive. By improving their workflow and providing better tools, the corporation aims to build a cleaner, more hygienic, and eco-friendly Silchar.
