In a show of strong political will, the meeting between the Chief Executive Member of Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council, Tuliram Ronghang and the various political and non- political organizations, the decision to go for eviction within a short period of 30 days came as a relief to the invitee groups.

However, the CEM confidently asserted that the procedure of the oncoming actions ahead would pivot around or be grounded on the Judgment of Apex Court of India in 2011 regarding the Public Grazing Reserve/Professional Grazing Reserves in India.

Meanwhile, the announcement for dismissing the Sarkari Gaon Burah (SGB) of Karbi Anglong has come out of the blue. So was the announcement regarding the issuance of eviction notice to the VGR/PGR inhabitants of the areas of Habaipur and Phulani Circle? Reading between the lines is important here: the task is uphill in reality.

Though there was a round of rejoicing; Tuliram Ronghang meant business to the instigators of the unfortunate losses of Law and Order situation of the autonomous district, a matter of discredit and infamy when the district made rapid strides in developmental activities.

The revenue officials have an awful load of work now. The scheduled tribe and scheduled castes communities residing in VGR/PGR are immune to such actions, nor is it easy to locate the VGR /PGR areas with actual boundaries as a fear is expressed about the overlapping status with genuine forest land of Karbi Anglong.

The formal disclosure was made by the Chief Executive Member of Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council after the people’s consultative meeting held today at the craft centre auditorium Diphu.

Frontline Karbi leaders like Dr. Jayanta Rongpi, Holiram Terang, J I Kathar, Robindro Rongpi, representatives of Karbi Students Association, Autonomous State Demand Committee and delegates from various ethnic communities were present in the meeting.

The demands placed by the Autonomous State Demand Committee were accepted by the presidium on principle and agreed to go ahead within the ambit of law.

The demand of ASDC that during eviction no Sixth Schedule tribal people should be evicted and the 2011 judgment of Supreme court should be followed was approved in general.

The house also agreed that all immigrant settlements will be expelled and all polling stations set up within VGR and PGRs will be closed down and names of the illegal immigrants will be deleted from voters list.

In today’s meeting the council authority apparently built up a civic opinion ahead of setting off the susceptible issue ahead of the general election.
