Sukhovi | One person was killed and four others were injured after a suspected improvised explosive device (IED) blast targeted Assam Rifles vehicles near Sukhovi in Nagaland’s Chümoukedima district on Monday, officials said.
According to a preliminary statement issued by the Defence Public Relations Officer (PRO) for Kohima and Imphal, the explosion occurred in the vicinity of an Assam Rifles convoy moving through the area.
“A suspected IED blast is reported near Sukhovi on Assam Rifles vehicles. One fatality and four injured,” the Defence PRO said in a brief update.
Following the explosion, security forces launched a search and area domination operation to secure the site and ascertain the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Officials said the identity of the deceased and details of the injured personnel had not been disclosed immediately. The condition of those injured was also not known at the time of filing this report.
The blast triggered heightened security measures across the area, with additional forces deployed as part of the ongoing operation.
Authorities have not yet confirmed the group or individuals responsible for the suspected attack. Investigators are examining the nature of the explosive device and the sequence of events leading up to the blast.
Security agencies are expected to conduct a detailed forensic examination of the site as part of the investigation.
The incident comes amid heightened security concerns in parts of the Northeast, where security forces continue to carry out counter-insurgency and area security operations
