Export Plans to Dubai and Singapore Announced

Tezpur: The two-day Tezpur Litchi Festival 2026 commenced on Friday, celebrating the region’s famed GI-tagged litchi and showcasing its expanding footprint in international markets.
The festival has brought together farmers, exporters, scientists, entrepreneurs and policymakers on a common platform to discuss opportunities for enhancing production, marketing and exports of the fruit, which has become a proud symbol of Tezpur’s agricultural heritage.

A major highlight of the inaugural day was the announcement by Anand Kumar Das that one tonne of Tezpur litchi has been earmarked for export to Dubai. He further informed that arrangements have been finalized to export 500 kilograms of the fruit to Singapore, reflecting the growing global demand for the premium variety.
In a symbolic gesture aimed at promoting the region’s prized produce, 100 specially packaged boxes of premium Tezpur litchis will also be sent to the Prime Minister’s Office.
Speakers at the festival emphasized the importance of strengthening market linkages, adopting scientific cultivation practices and exploring new export destinations to enhance the value of the GI-tagged fruit. They noted that the increasing international recognition of Tezpur litchi is expected to benefit local growers and contribute to the region’s economy.
The festival features exhibitions, technical sessions and interactions among stakeholders, highlighting the journey of Tezpur litchi from orchards to global markets.
