As most of the rivers in the country originate from the Himalayas, the Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s water conservation initiative will find the Himalayan states playing a significant role. The Union Minister stressed on the need for balancing development and environmental protection.

Himalayan conclave is being held at Mussoorie today. The program was attended by Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, chief ministers of nine Himalayan states and a host of other dignitaries.

The objective of the program was to discuss various issues related to Himalayan development like the conservation of Himalayan ecology, biodiversity, and cultural heritage. 


The conclave will pass a Mussoorie resolution and focus on sustainable development of the Himalayan states, rivers, glaciers and water resources located in the region, disaster management, ecosystem services, tourism and wellness potential and special incentives to the Himalayan states.

The Mussoorie Resolution signed by the Himalayan States on the occasion saw them pledging to make endeavors to protect and conserve the rich Himalayan heritage and ethos for the prosperity and well-being of the nation.

As most of the rivers in the country originate from the Himalayas, so Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s water conservation initiative will find the 11 Himalayan states playing a significant role.

The Union Minister stressed on the need for balancing development and environmental protection. The local youths and startups also can play a vital role.  The empowerment of the local community should be accorded priority for achieving the intended aim of development schemes.

BJP President and Nainital MP Ajay Bhatt extended a warm welcome to the dignitaries coming to participate in the event and feel they meet to be a milestone in the development of the Himalayan states.

The chief minister of Nagaland, Neiphiu Rio, Meghalaya CM Conrad Sangma, advisor to the Sikkim CM, Mahendra P Lama, advisor to the Jammu and Kashmir governor, K.K Sharma were also among those who expressed their views on the occasion.
