PASCHIM MEDINIPUR: Three Christian families in Patlapur village of West Bengal’s Paschim Medinipur district have alleged that they were assaulted and threatened over their religious faith for three consecutive days. According to the families, they were dragged out of their homes, beaten and forced to perform Hindu religious rituals. They also alleged that they were threatened with further violence if they refused to give up Christianity.

One of the complainants, Lakshmi Mondal, alleged that a group of people assaulted her, tore her clothes and forced her to undergo a public purification ritual. The families further claimed that women and minors were threatened as part of the alleged campaign to pressure them into abandoning their Christian faith.
An FIR has named 13 people in connection with the alleged incidents. The complainants have accused individuals they claim are linked to the Bajrang Dal. However, police have said the investigation is underway and the political affiliations of the accused have not been established.
The families also alleged that their initial approach to the police failed to stop the harassment. Police personnel were later deployed near their homes to provide protection. As of reports published on October 23, no arrests had been confirmed in connection with the case.
The allegations have raised concerns over religious freedom and the safety of minority families in the area. The claims remain subject to police investigation.
