New York: Videos circulating online have allegedly shown acts of disrespect towards the Indian national flag during a protest outside Madison Square Garden on August 29.

In the purported footage, one Indian Tricolour is allegedly seen tied to a protester’s foot, while another appears to have been torn during the demonstration.

Union Minister Kiren Rijiju condemned the incident, saying criticism of the RSS, BJP or the government is acceptable in a democracy, but insulting India or disrespecting the national flag cannot be tolerated.

According to reports, the protest allegedly involved pro-Khalistan supporters. The authenticity and circumstances surrounding the videos have not been independently verified.
